When it comes to organizing a linen closet we deal with items that get lots of traffic and can easily get messy. So today we want to show you some simple tips to keep this space organized all the time.

1- Designated area

Not everybody has an entire designated 'linen closet' however you can have a designated area in any closet. In my case, I used part of my daughter's top shelf. She had a huge close and didn't use all of it, so the top shelf was the family's linen closet.

2-Empty

Once you have your designated area, remove everything from it. This will help you to visualize the actual space you have. The other great reason is because you can look at each item and see what you no longer use. We can easily end up with old sheets and stained towels that are doing nothing but taking up a valuable space.

3- Clean

Once the space is empty, vacuum the shelf (or shelves) and wipe down with a damp cloth. You can even wrap the shelves with self adhesive paper to make it look prettier.

4- Measure and use containers:

To know exactly what kind of containers, boxes or bins you need you must measure the empty space. This is a VERY important step, otherwise you might end up getting the wrong containers which means delaying your project.

5- Categorize

Categorize items in groups: beach towels, bath towels, hand towels, sheets, etc. If you have enough space you might want to store other items such us toilet paper, blankets, pillows or even some cleaning supplies. It is important to identify and separate them by categories so that way you know exactly where to go when you are looking for something.

6- Label-Label-Label!

This is as important as each of the previous steps. Most of us are visual learners (I know I am!) so we need to see where things should go. If we see "twin sheets", we will most likely put twin sheets back in that container and not the one that says "hand towels". This will help you keep your project organized.

7-Bonus Tip

When you are done and have some old towels and sheets left DO NOT throw the in the garbage, instead look for an organization where you can donate them.

Animal shelters are the perfect place for it! Rescued puppies and kitties are always in need of these items. Please look for a shelter in your area and make sure you bring the items to them. You can even call them and ask what other items they receive!
